According to the 2026 Point-in-Time Count released by Sacramento Steps Forward, the county’s overall unhoused population nearly 7,500. Of those, 17% are Transitional Age Youth (ages 18-24), meaning 1,200 to 1,300 young adults face homelessness on any given night.
For many, the greatest barrier to success is not a lack of potential, it is the absence of stability. The reality is simple: young adults cannot fully focus on education, employment, or building a future when they are struggling to meet their most basic needs. Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento believes there is a better way.

CRH is developing an innovative Transitional Aged Youth Housing and Support Program called Cedar Cottages. This program will receive these young adults and address the root causes of instability with one coordinated model of care. Participants will benefit from:
This is a critical opportunity to intervene upstream before housing instability becomes chronic homelessness, before unmet behavioral health needs become system dependency, and before educational pathways are permanently disrupted. The cost of inaction is not only measured in individual outcomes, but in continued strain on county systems, emergency services, and long-term public resources.
What is ultimately at stake is not only housing, food, or education, but whether young adults are given a real chance to build stability, dignity, and direction during one of the most defining transitions of their adulthood.
When you support young adults at this stage, you do more than change individual lives, you change the trajectory of our community.
